The History of the hotel "Zolotoy Yakor" began in 1909, when the "Ostsee-Hotel" was built on the place of the present hotel. In 1939-1941 the building was reconstructed upon the project of the german architect Skott Frick. The january 1956 should be considered the date of birth of the hotel "Zolotoy Yakor". Many famous people stayed at the hotel in different periods as guests of the city and the Baltic Fleet: national artists Nikolay Kryuchkov, Mikhail Zharov, Lyudmila Chursina, Vladimir Menshov; singers and composers Andrey Makarevich, Yuriy Shevchuk, Oskar Felzman; cosmonauts Alexey Leonov, Pavel Belyaev. In 1963 Iosif Brodskiy, a poet and a future Nobel laureate stayed at the hotel "Zolotoy Yakor" as a reporter of the magazine "Koster". In 2005 - the year of his 65th anniversary the memorial plate was set up on the hotel's front facade in his honour.
The hotel "Zolotoy Yakor" is situated in the historical part of the town, in the building constructed in the beginning of the XX th century within walking distance from the main seesights. Any part of the town can be easily reached from this point.
